December Newsletter

Dear Parents/Carers,

Christmas has arrived and the children are beginning to get very excited!

We have lots of events to help us celebrate over the next couple of weeks and the children are all busy rehearsing the Christmas play ‘Lights, CAMEL, Action. Please take the time to read this newsletter carefully, so that you don’t miss out on any of the information.

Thank you to all our parent helpers who have volunteered to come in and support children with their reading. This is really making a big difference. We warmly welcome support from our parents, grandparents and special friends. To help with cooking, sewing, reading, library or general classroom support we have to obtain DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance. If you would like to offer your time, then let us know and we will complete the necessary arrangements.

Golden Rules

The children have been reminded of our golden rules and have been learning them in class and during our assemblies. Our new behaviour policy, which is available on the school website, explains our school rules, rewards and positive approaches. A sunshine and cloud behaviour system is set up in every classroom and our five golden rules are below.

                              We are kind and helpful
We are honest
We are gentle
We listen to people
We look after property

Children in Need

We had an amazing day and enjoyed looking spotty for the day. Thank you to all the children who bought in a pound for children in need.  We raised £108.69

New School Website

We have been busy updating our new school website All year groups have their curriculum overviews published on their year group pages as well as a long term planner which details what the children are learning.

Snow Alert

If the school needs to close due to adverse weather conditions, parents need to visit this website for confirmation:

We will endeavor to text you of a closure as soon as we can on the day.

Whilst children read at school, individually, in groups and as part of a class, there are also lots of ways that you can support your child at home. This half term we have been monitoring which children read at home the expected three times a week and encouraging the children to make sure it is written in their reading diary. It has been really interesting observing how much more progress the children who read regularly at home make even over half a term. We will continue to monitor the children’s reading at home and even though I know that Christmas can be a very busy time it is essential that the children keep on reading.

To encourage this, we will be holding a reading competition over the holidays challenging your child to take a festive photograph of them enjoying a book –more details to follow in the coming weeks.

All inhalers will be sent home on the last day of term. To help us support your child with their medical needs please ensure that they are cleaned and in date ready for the return to school in January. This may also be a good opportunity to review your child’s inhaler plan with your healthcare professional.

A Special Request from the School Office

It would help us if all payments made to the school for clubs, trips etc. are submitted in an envelope with your child’s name, class, amount paid and reason for payment on the front. Thank you.

When it is Cast A’s performance the children in Cast B will be the choir and when Cast B are performing the children in Cast A will become the choir.   Detailed cast lists have been sent home.

Christmas Fayre – Thursday, 20th December

On Thursday, 20th December you and your family are invited to join us for tea/coffee and mince pies, the Christmas Fayre stalls and singing around the Christmas tree in the central quad.

Parents can collect their children at 2.15pm from their classroom doors and then at 2.30pm we will all gather around the tree for carol singing.  Afterwards the Christmas Fayre stalls will open for you to enjoy and then you can take your child home.  If you are not able to attend, Pinewood staff will be on hand to supervise children and they can be collected at the normal time.

At the fayre there will be an opportunity for the children to have a go on a lucky dip stall and the chocolate tombola. For the adults, we have a bottle tombola. Please come along and support this Christmassy event. All of the proceeds from the Christmas Fayre will go towards buying some more iPad’s so that the children have more opportunities to access spelling, phonic and math’s games.

Many thanks for all of your support this term and we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
