March 14th Newsletter

Dear Parents

Thank you for making us both so welcome at Pinewood Infant School. It really is a friendly school and we are enjoying getting to know the parents as well as the staff and children. One of the things the parents are telling us is that they would like more communication about what is going on in school so rather than a monthly newsletter we will be sending them slightly more frequently to try to keep you up to date with what is going on in school. We do welcome feedback and hope to issue a questionnaire in the next few weeks to find out more about what you think of Pinewood Infant School.

Parent forum

Recently Mrs Harvey met with the parent forum to discuss the support they have given to the school in the past and how they would want to support the school going forward.

A small but keen group of parents attended and discussed a number of ideas. One of the things that was very clear was that Pinewood parents would like a PTA, a more formal parent group support the school. Having a PTA brings many advantages to the school as we will be able to access support from businesses and sponsorship when fundraising. We are currently looking to move forward with this and will keep you informed with our progress.

In the meantime Friends of Pinewood Infants are planning a couple of events this term. There will be a cake sale at 2.30pm Friday, 29th March, the funds from this will be used to purchase Easter eggs for the end of term Easter egg hunt. More details of both of these events will come out soon but we will be asking for contributions to the cake stall and the children will shortly be bringing home a paper plate for you to fill with delicious cakes and return to sell on the stall.

We will also be looking for parent volunteers to help with a project to improve the Year R outside play area. Children whose parents are involved in school life make the best progress so please get involved with these activities to help support your child’s school.

Red Nose Day

On Friday 15th March we invite the children to come to school in mufti clothes including something red e.g. a red top. They may bring a 50p contribution towards comic relief. We will be planning fun activities in school that will teach the children

Staffing News

Mrs Jackson has worked as a support assistant in school for a number of years, she will be leaving the school on Wednesday, 20th March to spend more time travelling. We wish her good luck for the future and thank her for her hard work over the time she has worked at Pinewood.

Workshops

The presentations shared at the recent Math’s workshops are now available on the school website. If you missed the sessions you can access the materials to find out how you can support your child with their math’s learning at home.

Attendance and Punctuality

We are delighted to see an improvement in punctuality in the morning although there are still some latecomers. Remember doors open at 8.35 and close at 8.45. Children need to be in their classrooms by 8.45 in time for registration. Children will receive a late mark if they are not in school by 8:50am when the register is taken. Any child arriving after 8:45am must come through the front door and report to the school office.

We are encouraging the children to be independent and would like to see children making their own way down to the classroom from reception and parents do not take their children through the school. Teachers are busy with the children in the morning so if you need to talk to the class teacher please make an appointment for after school.

We are currently reviewing attendance data and are concerned about the high absence rate of some children. The parents of these children will be asked to come and talk to the Headteacher.

We are still receiving a number of requests for term time holidays. These are not permitted unless there are extenuating or exceptional circumstances. Absence will be recorded as unauthorised and 10 sessions of unauthorised absences will lead to parents being issued with penalty notices and subsequently fined. If you wish to talk about this please make an appointment to talk to Mrs Harvey.

New Headteacher

Thank you to those parents who provided quotes for the Governors to use in the application pack they are compiling for the New Headteacher recruitment process.

Junk modelling

Year R have requested  junk modelling materials so please save boxes and cartons etc and send them into school. Thank you
