Dear Parents/ Carers,
Welcome back from half term.It has been a busy start, with the children already fully engaged in their newtopics. The children have enjoyed their ‘Wow’ days and Year One have had the Rangersvisit to bring their learning about animals to life. The topics for this halfterm are:
- Year R – Transport
- Year 1 – Midnight at the Zoo
- Year 2 – Out of this World (Space)
This is always a very busy half term in school and the children will shortly be learning all of the new songs for the Christmas Performances. In order to give you as much notice as possible about the exciting activities we have planned in the run up to Christmas, this is rather a long newsletter with lots of information in.
We would like to inform you that Miss Bergamin has decided to go travelling and will be leaving us at Christmas. Whilst sad she is leaving us, we wish her all the very best in her travels and thank her for all her dedication to the children at Pinewood. We are also pleased to announce the successful appointment of Mr Nicholas who will be joining us in January to teach Owl class.
In addition to this, we aredelighted to inform you that Mrs Barnett will be returning from maternity leavein January. She will be working with Miss Price in Fox class. Miss Price willbe in class Monday, Tuesday and Friday, with Mrs Barnett teaching Wednesday andThursday.

Thank you all for yoursupport at the Harvest Assembly before half term. The children really enjoyedperforming the poems and songs, and we are very proud of them all. We received lots of donations for the foodbank and we know that the contributions will be put to good use over the wintermonths.
YR Phonics Workshop
Please note the change in date for the Phonic workshops. This is an importantworkshop for YR parents to find out how your child will be learning phonics andwriting, and how to support their development in these areas. There will be amorning session on Wednesday 14th November at 8:45am and then repeated on Thursday 15th November at 6:30pm.
Children in Need Day
On Friday 16th November we want to makeour school spotty for the day! Everyone can come to schoolwearing spots in exchange for a donation of £1 for Children in Need. Pleasewear spotty dresses, spotty ties, even spotty faces! If you don’t like dressing up, you can just pop on a pair of spotty socks or wear a pair of spottyPudsey ears.Children are welcome to bring in a small spotty teddy bear for the day.
OnTuesday 4th December there is an opportunity for all parents to comeand speak with the class teacher about your child’s progress, to find out aboutthe next steps and how you can help support your child at home. The sessionswill be running from 8.45am with tea and toast and then again in the afternoonat 2.30pm with tea and biscuits. This is a really valuable opportunity to worktogether in support of your child’s next steps in learning. To help us have anindication of numbers please can you sign which session you will be attending onthe sheet in the front entrance or phone the school office. However, you do notneed to have signed up to come for an appointment so if you find that you areavailable at the last minute please feel free to come along.
We will be staging two performances of our Christmasplay – this enables more children to have the opportunity of taking a leadingrole as well as comfortably accommodating the audience. The school will bedivided into Cast A and Cast B and children from the same family will be keptin the same cast. When it is Cast A’s performance the children in Cast B willbe the choir and when Cast B are performing the children in Cast A will becomethe choir. You will be notified which performance your child will be in whenparts have been allocated, however these are the dates for the performances inadvance…
- Monday 10th December 9:30 – Dress Rehearsal for Cast A
- Tuesday 11th December 9:30 – Dress Rehearsal for Cast B
- Wednesday 12th December 9:30 – Performance for Cast A
- Thursday 13th December 9:30 – Performance for Cast B
We respectfully request that small children and babiesare only brought to the dress rehearsals. The performances on Wednesday and Thursday mornings are for adultsonly.
Christmas Post Box
The box will be in the entrance hall from Monday, 3rdDecember. Please label envelopes clearlywith child’s name and class.
Wednesday 19th December
Christmas Lunch. All children will have the opportunity toenjoy a Christmas lunch. It is a specialoccasion, and the children are ‘waited on’ by teaching and support staff.
Children may bring in party clothes in a named bag, to change into for lunchtime and for class party games in the afternoon.
Thursday 20th December
Christmas Carols around the Tree. We are busy making the final plans for Christmas, more details will follow soon!
