Parent Helpers

Roles & Goals

  • The first role of a volunteer is to provide a positive relationship with the children and staff.
  • A volunteer also helps teachers with non-instructional tasks so that they have more time to work with the children and plan.
  • Volunteers creatively share their talents to support children, teachers and staff.
  • Ultimately, a volunteer’s primary goal is to positively impact children achievement:
    • academically
    • socially
    • physically
    • emotionally

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Listening to readers
  • Cooking with small groups of children
  • Sewing
  • Gardening
  • Playing maths games
  • Looking after the library
  • Sharing stories with children
  • Off-site visits (trips)

How you can best help the children and the teachers

  • Always being positive and nurturing
  • Committing to a time
  • Helping students do things for themselves
  • Being ready to laugh
  • Enjoying your time with us!
