Pinewood Infant School has provision children with Speech, Language and Communication needs. This consists of 15 places funded from Hampshire Educational Authority and serves Northeast Hampshire. Children with these spaces are allocated through County systems.
In the morning, Year R children have focused teaching designed to develop their language skills and next steps in core learning in a small class setting called Owl class. In the afternoon they are fully inclusive in the mainstream class, where they are given the support to apply their focused learning. This helps to develop their social and language skills whilst providing good role models and the full Early Years experience of learning through play.
In Key Stage 1 the children have a personalised curriculum and programme between their year group mainstream class and the Resourced Provision small class. This enables them to work with their mainstream class to a greater or lesser extent depending on their individual needs. This programme is flexible and changes as the children develop and grow skills.
The small Resourced Provision class offer a language rich environment with the full range of curriculum activities designed to develop the children’s next steps in language and learning.
The Speech and Language Therapist is on site for one day fortnightly. She works closely with the school to develop language skills through the everyday class environment and train staff on how to deliver programmes.
